Commieblocks are invented by socialist governments to provide fast and cheap housing for its citizens. Most of them are in countries like Russia, China and Brazil, and provide the bulk of public housing. Commieblocks are rare in Western countries, but some of American “projects” are in fact commieblocks. Modern commieblocks are very clean, comfortable and prove to be excellent housing type with many advantages over urban sprawl.

We know and appreciate the sheer size and complexity of the structures of the U.S. that have become iconic symbols of cities around the country. What we rarely see is the process and great sacrifice the country went through to erect the structures we take for granted.
A small island off the coast of Nagasaki Prefecture, Hashima was populated from the late 19th century to the 1970s as a coal mining facility. The island was then abandon, closing out all access to the public until late 2009, and then now opened up to Google Trekker and the Maps Team.
