Ancient Pool of Water in the Middle of Sahara Desert

What you  cansee in the desert besides sand dunes? You might think that nothing exciting, but it’s a big mistake. There’s an unusual place hidden in the middle of the sea of sand. Here’s how mirage would look like a mirage, if it was true.

This wonderful marvel is called the Guelta d’Archei and it is probably the most famous guelta in the Sahara. It is located in the Ennedi Plateau, in north-eastern Chad. A guelta is a peculiar type of wetland, typical of desert regions. Gueltas are formed when underground water in lowland depressions spills to the surface and creates permanent pools and reservoirs.

It is is a barren place, away from beaten paths. Tour to guelta requires a 4×4 and is at least 4 days’ travel from n’Djamena, the Chad capital. Guelta is inhabited by several kinds of animals, most notably the Nile crocodile.
