Dr. Rummel is an orthopedic surgeon. Paralyzed in 2010 is continuing to operate on his patients — from a stand-up wheelchair.
Those patients often talk about his outgoing personality and his compassionate bedside matter and barely even mention that he’s now a surgeon in a wheelchair. He now performs procedures on patients’ hands, elbows, feet, knees and ankles from his sitting wheelchair. To operate on shoulders, he gets strapped into an upright chair.
“I just wanted to help people,” says Dr. Ted Rummel.
