Brazilian Anti-Fifa Street Art Expresses Outrage Over World Cup
With the 2014 World Cup drawing closer and closer, spotlights have been shined upon the crumbing cities of Brazil.
What usually ensues with these one-off sporting tournaments and events is the long drawn out spectacles come and go, leaving the cities with brand new sporting facilities, but collapsing hospitals and schools. The World Cup is costing Brazil $11 billion. Many Brazilians are incensed to watch their taxes being spent on stadiums, while there are people in poverty, public works in need of improvement, and drugs and violence to be eradicated.
Street artists have covered walls in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo with pictures which blame football’s governing body, FIFA, for exploiting Brazil and the local government for neglecting the needs of the poor.
