According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the term “irony” originates in early 16th century from the Greek word εἰρωνεία, meaning “simulated ignorance”. There are three major sections of irony usage: verbal, dramatic and situational.
The one which interest us the most is situational irony. This type of usage for irony is relatively modern and usually means some kind of comical discrepancy, contrast or a literal opposition between the aims of an action and its actual result. Ironic incidents are lurking all around us, waiting to be captured on camera.
