Street Art Portraits Chiseled Into Walls by Vhils (11 pictures + bonus video)

Alexandre Farto aka Vhils is an artist from Lisbon, Portugal. The son of a dissident in Portugal’s Carnation Revolution, Vhils first rose to prominence when one of his portraits appeared next to a work by Banksy at the 2008 Cans Festival in London. Now, at 25, he’s the youngest artist represented by Banksy’s agent, Steve Lazarides.

Vhils works in a variety of mediums but he is well known for his chiseled wall portraits of ordinary citizens. Through a combination of paint, chiseling and negative space, Vhils portraits come to life, projecting from the walls like a relief painting.
