Faking it – unrealistic images in the media

DJ Goldierocks volunteers herself as a model and guide by investigating the time and effort it takes to take one ‘hot’ shot of herself by industry experts. Take a look behind the scenes at the wardrobe, hair and make-up processes involved in the preparation for a photoshoot. Get an insider’s view of the photographic tricks and computer techniques used to create a ‘perfect’ magazine image. This demonstrates the unrealistic nature of airbrushed media images of models and celebrities and explores how daily exposure to these images can make people feel negative about their body image. The viewer is encouraged not to compare themselves to unrealistic media images.First broadcast in the Learning Zone as part of the ‘Your Body Your Image’ series in December 2012.
