These Mysterious Patterns On The Ocean Floor Have a Surprising Explanation

It’s not often that we look for evidence of extraterrestrial life at the bottom of the ocean, but if aliens did want to hide their existence from us, the ocean would be a pretty good place to do it.

Take this beautiful, odd-looking geometric pattern on the ocean floor, for example. It was found off the coast of Japan’s Amami-Ōshima Island. The pattern is made of sculpted sand, but it wasn’t made by a human. If that’s the case, then who (or what) put it there?

Unfortunately, it isn’t the work of aliens. The artists behind these odd sand sculptures are actually male puffer fish. They create these patterns to attract mates.
