One of the most secured borders on the world: U.S. – Mexico border (41 pictures)

The United States-Mexico border is 3,169 km (1,969 mi) long and is one of the most famous and the most secured borders in the world.  It is also the most frequently crossed international border in the world, with approximately 350 million people legally crossing per year.

It’s difficult to estimate how many people are trying to cross the border illegally, but one thing is certain – not all end up happily. According to the United States Border Patrol, 1,954 people died crossing the U.S–Mexico border between the years 1998-2004. In 2009, 417 deaths were reported across the border. Yet the statistics cited by scholars and the media are only the number of known deaths and do not include those who have never been found, underestimating the actual number of migrants that have died attempting unauthorized border crossings. Most of us have only seen the border from afar but now we bring you on a behind the scenes tour of the border like you’ve never seen it before.
