The Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed and trained fighters arriving and financed from abroad. The number of refugees from the country in April exceeded 1 million people .

Leprosy, also known as Hansen’s disease, was officially eliminated at the national level in China by 1982, meaning prevalence is lower than 1 in 100,000. Many of those people affected by leprosy have been isolated in remote villages since the 1950s, and they and their offspring – most of whom have never been infected – have little chance of rejoining society because of the strong prejudice, and their own fears.
