Hilarious Translation Fails At The Sochi Olympics

To help tourists find their way around Sochi, the city’s administration has translated the street signs into English, with less-than-expert results. Ruzheynaya Ulitsa has become the scary-sounding Shotgun Street instead of the milder Rifle Road, while Ulitsa Golubye Dali, which means Blue Yonder, has been literally translated as Blue Dali Street, as if in tribute to the Spanish artist Salvador. Elina Baranskaya, the chief artist of the city administration, appeared unimpressed, telling Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper that it was the fault of contractors: “It was completely stupid and we’re very embarrassed.”
