San Francisco Turned into Gotham to Welcome Make-A-Wish BATKID (20 pictures)
Thousands gathered and participated in today’s transformation of San Francisco into Gotham city for Batkid. Five-year-old Miles, otherwise known as Batkid, was granted the wish of a lifetime through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, when he got the opportunity to fight along side Batman throughout the Bay area. Miles has been battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia since he was 20 months old and is in remission having the last of his chemotherapy finished in June. When asked about his wish, Miles claimed he wanted to continue living his life heroically. He wanted to be Batman.
Patricia Wilson, the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Bay Area executive director, made some phone calls and the volunteers started rolling in. Today is the big day for Miles, thousands of volunteers will cheer on “Batkid” as he fends off the Riddler and the Penguin around San Francisco. The mayor will later present Miles with a key to the city and police Chief Greg Suhr play Commissioner Gordon to signal Miles when his heroics are needed. With all the volunteers following Miles around today, we wanted to give people not in the Bay area a first hand look at a city wide miracle.
